East Lake

East Lake, one of Birmingham's oldest neighborhoods, is home to a diverse community of artists, families, and long time residents.

Currently, there are several initiatives cultivating a strong artist community in this area. East Lake Arts District was created in 2005 to promote the area as a community for artists and musicians to live and create. Similarly, the East End Arts Association began meeting in 2009 and encourages community-wide participation through social media. Specific projects include Musician’s Hollow, a Purple House Parade, and an East Lake Crime Watch. Other community activities include the East Lake Farmer’s Market and marketing the slogan “Keep East Lake Weird”.

Just ten minutes from downtown, East Lake is situated near the Interstate 20 and the airport.
