Proud Placemaker: Amber Tolbert, East Lake

Hey Amber! Since REV Residence is in your future shop this week, it’s so great you have taken the time to chat with us. So let’s get started- which neighborhood do you currently live in?

I live in East Lake.

We sure do love an East Laker! Are you a
native of the area?

No, I relocated from Hoover due to work & personal community investment.

Community investment- that sounds great! Care to elaborate on what you mean by that?

Mentoring & tutoring programs in the schools, the arts, great potential of this community.

If there’s one thing you have right about East Lake, it’s definitely the potential. What else about the area really made you love calling it your home?

The rich cultural history, the arts, the food!, the diversity of peoples, the southern hospitality.

So a lot of people pass over East Lake when considering Birmingham living. What would you tell someone curious about making the move?

East Lake is on the upswing with great investment of local residents into the arts, nature center, parks and schools. This community also has great business potential with traffic generated from downtown, Trussville and intersections of major interstates.

Again, the potential truly is a driving force of the growing community here in East Lake.

Yes! I am a part of a community that has a 25-year commitment to serve East Lake through community development involving education, economic development, homeownership programs, and more. This is what I am passionate about & want to give my life to!

We need more movers and shakers like you in this city, Amber! Thank you so much for sharing your passion and your story with us today.

Amber is currently in the process of building out East 59, a very cool new coffee shop in downtown East Lake set to open in 2014. Curious to get an idea of what the amazing space will look like or just craving a ridiculously good cup o’ joe? Visit Amber and the rest of the East 59 crew October 7-12 during REVIVE Birmingham where they will be serving up some good coffee as well as some great conversation about the future of this community.
