Proud Placemaker: Charles Hatcher, Norwood

Hey Charles! So which great neighborhood is it that you call home?

Norwood

Great choice.  Were you living in another city before choosing Norwood?

I did not acutally relocate. I am a lifelong resident of Birmingham. I have lived in other neighborhoods but decided to purchase a home in Norwood.

We love a Birmingham Lifer! You must know this city really well.  With that being said, what was it about Norwood that made it seem like a good fit for you?

Growing up in Birmingham I have always loved the architecture of the homes in Norwood. I discovered the house at 1327 32nd Street while installing phones in the Norwood area. I loved the large rooms and the floor plan, the wide streets, and the beautiful trees in the area. I love remodeling projects and this was the perfect fixer-upper.

Ooh your home must be quite lovely! Isn't it great that you can get such amenities all while continuing to live within city living?! What would you say is the greatest benefit of your neighborhood?

Convenience, Convenience, Convenience.....Location, Location, Location.... I am centrally located to everything. A short drive to shopping at any of the malls or grocery stores, A few blocks from entertainment at the Civic Center, Mcwain Center, AlabamaTheater, Museums, Legion Field, and now the new baseball stadium.

Norwood is definitely a growing community. Is there anything advice you might give for someone looking to call it their home as well?

Norwood is a great neighborhood. If you like historic neighborhoods with well constructed homes, this is the place for you. Great neighbors and great neighborhood leadership make Norwood a place on the move. If you don't like cookie cutter houses, we have a home for you. I have been living in Norwood since 1977 and have no plans on moving. I am excited about the new progressive minded residents that Norwood is attracting.

You sure did hit the nail on the head with that one. We absolutely love that you have been a Proud Placemaker for over 30 years. Anything you'd like share before we go?!

The world needs to know that I love Norwood and my ongoing remodeling project. It is no secret, but I also enjoy working in my yard. Since I don't do any backpacking anymore, I guess these are my hobbies now.
