Proud Placemaker: Tyler Davis, Crestwood

Hey, Tyler! So you’ve been in Birmingham your entire life, right?

Yes, I was born and raised Birmingham.  I grew up in Mountain Brook and as an adult I've lived Homewood, Highland Park, downtown, and currently Crestwood South.

Awesome! Looks like you’ve experienced living some of the coolest neighborhoods in town. What was it about Crestwood that made it worth settling in as your current home?

Before moving to Crestwood my partner and I rented a loft downtown, which we loved.  About a year ago, though, we got the real estate bug and decided to buy a home.  We chose Crestwood South because it's convenient to his work, close to downtown and some of our favorite neighborhood restaurants and hangouts.  We were attracted to our home in particular because of its updated kitchen, a great yard for us to play and plant a garden, and the room we need for my home office.

We love that you’ve been in Birmingham your entire life.  What changes have you noticed happening in the city that made it worth staying?

There are so many positive quality of life factors that make urban living in Birmingham appealing.

For example, Birmingham has undergone what I like to call a "Parksplosion" in the last few years.  It's amazing to see the brand new and renovated parks that have come online in the past few years.  Near our home, the freshly renovated Crestwood Park is a great place for exercise and play and we like to venture downtown to Railroad Park as well.  Access to great food and fun is another reason we love living in the city.  I love being minutes away from a great restaurant like Bettola in Pepper Place or grabbing a delicious beer at Good People Brewery with friends.

It's also exciting to be a part of a city that's on the upswing.  We take a lot of pride in living in Birmingham and want to play a small role in making it a better place for everyone.

The city’s growth is definitely something people can’t ignore any longer. So what would you tell someone who still has some hesitations about moving to this great, growing city?

They need to come here and see it and let the City do the talking.  This past weekend we met up with some friends who were hosting a couple here in town for the weekend.  After visiting the Parkside District, checking out the farmer's market at Pepper Place, exploring the shops on 2nd Ave. downtown and a night cap at Parkside in Avondale (which may or may not have concluded with a late night at Saw's BBQ) they walked away extremely impressed with what's going on here.

As far as selling Crestwood, to me it feels like a modern day Mayberry.  We've felt extremely welcomed by our neighbors since moving in and enjoy the quiet more residential aspects of living here while also being a stone's throw from all of our favorite places around town.

There’s no greater feeling than that of a welcoming neighborhood! It's great you’ve found your fit in Crestwood. Any final things we should know about you- perhaps a fun fact or an unusual quirk?

I have, on occasion, been know to eats Duke's Mayonnaise out of the jar with a spoon.  Although, I've been told once I turn 35 I'm not allowed to do that anymore.

Well we would love to gladly grab some Saw’s BBQ with you, but might have to pass on asking for some extra mayo J Thanks for sharing!
