How long have you lived in Birmingham?

I am a native of Birmingham, born and raised!

Tell us what you like most about Birmingham.

I like the mix of small town feeling in each community and the big city feeling when you go to an event. The Magic City has always felt like home, and I have never wanted to leave and live anywhere else!

We can relate! What drew you to your neighborhood, Oak Ridge Park?

I live in Oak Ridge Park Neighborhood which is apart of the Woodlawn Community. Woodlawn has a rich history that is being restored with the efforts of a variety of organizations. I wanted to be apart of this revitalization effort so I decided to remain in the Woodlawn Community after I graduated from Talladega College.

We know you are busy. What other projects are you involved in?

Oak Ridge Park Neighborhood Association, President
Alabama Young Democrats, Executive Vice-President
Better Basics Ready 2 Read Program, Volunteer
Woodlawn High School Alumni Coalition, Co-Founder
DISCO, Creative Writing Program, Board of Directors
Woodlawn Foundation, Board of Directors

Wow - You are truly engaged and so very active! Myeisha, Is there anything else you'd like to share about you or your neighborhood ?

I feel extremely blessed to have the opportunities and motivation to make Woodlawn better. I am thankful for everyone who supports and has started initiatives in Woodlawn. Truly, our community has seen some dark days, but with all the interest and hard work its on its way back to being Birmingham's premiere community! I am humbled and thankful for the opportunity to serve in a leadership role for my community. Nothing gives me greater inspiration to make my community better than knowing that people believe in me.

Myeisha is passionate about Birmingham, and gives "Community Spirit" a whole new meaning! She just recently accepted the Love Your Block grant, awarded to the Oak Ridge Park Neighborhood, that will be used to directly impact quality of life in this Woodlawn community. Be sure to say hello to Myeisha next time you see her... no doubt she'll have her sleeves rolled up!
